He also helped to found the opera troupe "The Bostonians" and was active in the Boston Ideal Opera Company. Barnabee was a member of Columbian Lodge in Boston, joining in 1865. He joined St. Andrew's Royal Arch Chapter in June of 1868, and DeMolay Commandery a few months later. His papers are held by the Portsmouth Public Library in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
