This report was the "first publication of the complete journal of this famous march of the Mormon Battalion; only extracts from it had been included in the 1847 edition of Emory's 'Reconnaissance'." At the beginning of the Mexican War, Cooke joined the Army of the West and helped accomplish the surrender of Santa Fe in August 1846. As a brevet lieutenant colonel he led the battalion of Mormon volunteers on a hazardous three-month trek from Santa Fe to San Diego, California. His journal, printed in this report, starts in Santa Fe on October 13, 1846, and ends in Mission of San Diego on January 30, 1847. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 85 pp.
