Soft crease to front bottom and rear top fore-corners. A little fading to the edges. Tiny stain on title page, copyright page, and contents page. Otherwise the inside pages… are clean and unmarked, with slight toning. Title page continues "Under the Command of Regimental Number 10407, Staff/Sergeant H.A. Larsen (Now Sub-Inspector). Consists of the more important records of the two voyages, including the log-books, navigation reports, and patrol reports, written by Larsen while on the St. Roch.

Larsen, was the second ship to navigate the northwest passage after Amundsen's 'Gioja' and the first to make the voyage from west to east. "During the eastward voyage 1940-…42, the St. Roch wintered at Walker Bay, west side of Victoria Island, 1940-41; proceeded via the southern route, south of King William Island, and north to Pasley Bay, west side Boothia Peninsula, where the schooner wintered 1941-42; continued north through Bellot Strait and east through Lancaster Sound to Pond Inlet on Baffin Island; thence to Sydney, N.S. On the westward trip in 1944, the schooner accomplished the first Northwest Passage in a single season, via Pond Inlet, Lancaster and Melville Sounds, and Prince of Wales Strait (Arctic Bib.) While the ship was trapped in the ice for two winters on the first voyage, she managed to accomplish the second in 86 days. Arctic Bib. 14926.
