Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. First English Edition (Henry Schuman=NAP). I have priced this book at half the price of the next least expensive 1951 First English edition, not entirely because I am such a generous person. Because of quite a little oddity, the Editor's Preface (two pages/four sides) was excised from the book. I've never seen that before. Those are the only pages missing and the binding is excellent. So you have the blank front end paper, then the title page (which is in excellent condition), the verso of which has the copyright page, then there's the Contents Page (the verso of which has the Author's Acknowledgment), and then the Introduction. The Introduction begins on page xi. The Contents page lists the Editor's Preface as beginning on page vii. You can see the covers in the photos. They are in solid condition, no conspicuous soiling. There is a little dent on the front cover a little bit up from the bottom edge, and there is a scratch on the rear cover up a little from its bottom edge (see photo). There's also a crease under the top edge of the spine, and there is a tiny loss at the same top edge. The cover edges are in excellent shape. The cover corners have small spots of rub-through. The page edges are very clean. The white lettering on the spine looks good. The book is square and the spine is straight. As mentioned, the binding is very solid. The pages are nicely tight from cover to cover and the covers are nicely tight as well. The white inside covers and end papers are very clean. The same can be said for all the pages in the book. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm also not finding any conspicuous creasing, no placeholder creases, no turned-down corners. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : No Dust Jacket. Reprint. "Written by a man who, probably more than any single one of his contemporaries, was responsible for the emergence of the sovereign Jewish State of Israel. It is a document of considerable historical and political importance. Mr. Begin has been at pains to stress that this book is not a history of the Hebrew revolt. He has deliberately confined himself to matters with which he personally was intimately concerned. It is a book of personal memoirs. His recorded facts have been so faithfully and fairly set down that despite the critical light which some of them shed upon influential groups in the re-born State of Israel, not one of his facts has been successfully disputed since the book was published some time ago in Israel in the original Hebrew. The appearance of an edition in English affords the serious-minded citizens of [England] their first opportunity to acquaint themselves with the truth about the Hebrew revolt against British Mandatory rule in Palestine." - Editor's Preface. Reprint of the 1952 first edition. Text in English. xiv, 386 pages. Index. Black and white photographic plates. Clean, tight and unmarked with moderate wear. No dust jacket. A sound copy.; 8vo.

Ajouter au panierRevised edition of Begin's classic first book. Octavo, original cloth, frontispiece, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "To Caroline Riedler- in friendship M. Begin." Translated from the Hebrew by Shmuel Katz. Edited by Ivan M. Greenberg. Fine in a near fine dust jacket, name of the recipient to the front free endpaper. Revolt traces the development of the Irgun from its early days in the 1930s, through its years of violent struggle in the Palestine Mandate against both British rule (the "revolt" of the title) and Arab opposition, to the outbreak of the Israeli War of Independence in 1948. It is also part autobiographical, tracing Begin's own political development. The political scientist John Bowyer Bell who studied both the Irgun and the Irish Republican Army recalled that many of the IRA men whom he interviewed in the 1960s had read The Revolt and admired it as a manual of guerrilla warfare. It was also studied by African National Congress Nelson Mandela after he went underground in 1960, and credited it as being among the books he used a guide in planning the ANC's guerrilla campaign against the apartheid government of South Africa.
