Subtitled 'A guide and interpreter of the Lewis and Clark expedition, with an account of the travels of Toussaint Charbonneau, and of Jean Baptiste, the expedition papoose'. Inscribed (to Dr. Edward Hagaman Hall) and then signed by the author on the free front end paper. May have two or three penciled margin check marks. The contents (340 pp., including a frontis and tissue, twenty additional tissue-covered illustrations, and a fold-out sketch map) otherwise appear clean, complete and securely bound. Laid in are seven B&W glossy snapshots or photographic prints of people and/or locations that were taken during the author's investigative field trips. Some if not all of these snapshots were taken contemporaneously with the book's printed illustrations. Top edge gilt and and uncut fore and bottom edges. Burgundy cloth with gilt spine lettering and border lines. The covers have some patches where the sheen is a bit dulled and perhaps a light scuff mark or two. Very lightly bumped or rounded spine head and tail edges. Inscribed by Author(s).
