With eight somewhat repulsive (it's all a matter of taste) collotype illustrations by Brook-Greaves. Heavy rubbing through cover cloth at lower corners; extremities otherwise lightly-to-moderately worn. Spine cloth slightly faded and with a couple of very small darkened spots. Few tiny scars to illustration adjoining p. 85 where illustration adhered to and then pulled away from text page. Interior otherwise clean and tight.

With original green paper front wrapper bound in. With 8 collotype illustrations in guarded plates by R.B. Brook-Greaves. Introduction by F.A Wright. A few small marks to covers, lightly bumped corners and light rubbing to edges; otherwise bright. Occasional foxing & marks to pages, heavier to prelims and at end leaves, a few pencil marginalia and neat ink numbering of commentary sections. A Very Good copy. Pictures available.

Boards expertly finished repaired and now in excellent condition with new spine. repair almost invisible. Full leather (polished calf) covers with gilt border decoration and gilt panelling and lettering to spine. Five raided bands to spine. Leather scratched and worn to edges. Corners worn. Marbled end papers and gilt edging to tops of all pages. There is a page prior to half title with presentation details form EC Hawtry, the Headmaster of Eton, completed by hand with the details of the recipient, dated 1852 (amended from 1841). All edges gilt. Red border to text on each page. First page has some foxing but otherwise clean and bright. When securely packed this item will weigh in the region of 1343g. Translated attributed to the young American jurist John Duer (1782-1858), who at the time of publication would have just completed a brief stint studying law at the firm of Alexander Hamilton.
