Baugh, former chairperson of Vancouver, WA NAACP, David Baugh, local Area President, and Civil Rights Activists (1942 Alabama A.&M. graduate). First editions of this fascinating archive for the noted African-American Land Grant College, Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical College/University originally founded in 1875 in Normal, AL by former slave, William Hooper Councill as the Huntsville Normal School. The campus grounds were designed originally by Frederick Law Olmsted, and by the time its' name was changed to Alabama A.&M. College in 1948 from the State Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes, it had become a training ground for African-American scientists, doctors, teachers, farmers, weaving, home economics, industrial arts, engineering, and more. These Alumni magazines and bulletins detail the erection of new buildings on campus, dormitories for women in 1962, the influence of NASA and the space program in 1963; African-American fraternity and sorority activities on and off the campus; Athletic events, and much more.
