Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articlesavailable from Wikipedia or other free sources online. DNA methylationinvolves the addition of a methyl group to the 5 position of thecytosine pyrimidine ring or the number 6 nitrogen of the adenine purinering (cytosine and adenine are two of the four bases of DNA). Thismodification can be inherited through cell division. DNA methylation istypically removed during zygote formation and reestablished throughsuccessive cell divisions during development. DNA methylation is acrucial part of normal organismal development and cellulardifferentiation in higher organisms. DNA methylation stably alters thegene expression pattern in cells such that cells can 'remember wherethey have been'; in other words, cells programmed to be pancreaticislets during embryonic development remain pancreatic islets throughoutthe life of the organism without continuing signals telling them thatthey need to remain islets. In addition, DNA methylation suppresses theexpression of viral genes and other deleterious elements which have beenincorporated into the genome of the host over time.…
