Ajouter au panierFirst edition, first printing (with publisher's requisite statement for latter upon copyright page) INSCRIBED BY LYNDON JOHNSON. x, 178 pages. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 14.5cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Brown boards; light scuffing/bumping at spine ends and board corners; slender shelf-wear along boards' bottom edges; spine's gilt lettering rather muted; light stains at boards' bottom center margins but evidenced more strongly upon the respective pastedowns. Light toning to text block's top edge; two small stains to upper fore-edge. Endpapers toned; soiling to front pastedown as well; four-line ink inscription "For Drew Shankle | With all good | wishes - | Lyndon B. Johnson" boldly written across most of front free endpaper; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. The inscribee is Drew Franklin Shankle Sr. (1907-1957) who was a longtime Mississippi journalist but, at the time of his passing by heart attack, was owner-publisher of two weekly newspapers in Texas which presumably led to his acquisition of this Johnson-inscribed copy.

Ajouter au panierFirst edition of Booth Mooney's biography of Lyndon B. Johnson. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with photographs. Association copy, inscribed by Lyndon B. Johnson on the front free endpaper, "To Hubert Humphrey with my high regard Lyndon B. Johnson." The recipient, Hubert Horatio Humphrey Jr., served as Lyndon B. Johnson's vice president from 1965 to 1969. Humphrey took office on January 20, 1965, ending the 14-month vacancy of the Vice President of the United States, which had remained empty when then-Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson assumed the Presidency after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. As President Lyndon B. Johnson's vice president, he supported the controversial Vietnam War. An intensely divided Democratic Party nominated him in the 1968 presidential election, which he lost to Republican nominee Richard Nixon. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. In this intimate portrait of Senator Johnson, his executive assistant and consultant Booth Mooney relays the complete story of Johnson's rise to power. A Democrat from Texas, Johnson served as a United States Representative and as the Majority Leader in the United States Senate prior to serving as the 36th president of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Johnson is one of only four people who have served in all four federal elected positions.
