What I found especially insightful is the rigour treatment of the topic in terms of a presice mathemetical model, not only for the protocols concerned with isolation of transactions, but also for the recovery protocols. I strongly recommend reading this book when you want to get a deeper understanding of the field. But of course it is also a beautiful introduction for beginners in TP and database systems.
