Bookplate of C.H. Waterland Mander on front pastedown. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Bound in publisher's red buckram board, somewhat blotchy, and worn at corners, with faded gilt lettering to upper board and spine.

Jorrocks was Surtees' timeless creation, his vulgarity and cheer still make the reader chuckle today. The red cloth cover is much bashed about. There is wear to all edges, corners and seams. The covers are marked, stained, scuffed. The covers and the spine are stoic. Inside, the contents are foxed throughout. Here and there the binding is cracked, but the pages are secure and sure.
