I was astonished when I first realized that this large book was full of sonnets written by one man—a thousand pages! Merrill Moore was a practicing poet and practicing psychiatrist (specializing in treating alcoholism and suicide). You can find out more about him at the Poetry Foundation website. This large hard cover book (6 ½ x 9 ¼ inches, 1000 pages plus 14 pages of comments by his fellow poets of the era) was published by Harcourt, Brace and Company of New York, dated 1938 and the First Edition (so stated). It is flat signed by the Author at the top of the half-title page. The book is bound in dark blue cloth with gilt titles on the spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket. The book features an illustration by Rockwell Kent as the Frontispiece, which also appears on the cover of the dust jacket. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has numerous small tears, some of which were inexpertly repaired by a former owner. The book apparently was once held by Time Inc and is stamped “Editorial Library” on the front endpaper. There are also some lightly penciled marginal notes to the sonnets found in the first section of the book but none beyond (pg. 75) and all probably easily erasable. There is a newspaper cutting laid-in at page 958/959 which has left a shadow on those pages. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Signed by Author(s).
