Ajouter au panierHardcover. 108p., 7.25x10.25 inches, poetry, art, fiction, criticism, two color tipped-in plates, one folding plate, b&w plates and facsimiles, very good arts and literary journal which appears to have been specially bound in hardcover cloth decorated with an abstract painting and with paper title labels on front cover and spine (which has been chipped). Images and descriptions found indicate all 9 issues were wraps bound magazines illustrated on covers with images from John Stephan's painting. This may have been an amateur binder's project to rebind the magazine.

Ajouter au panierStiff Wraps. First Editions. 26 x 16.5 cm. A complete set of this innovative literary and arts periodical, including work from the abstract expressionists of the New York School. Contributors include Jackson Pollock, John Cage, Mark Rothko, Jean Debuffet and many others. The first volume was printed at the Elm Tree Press in Woodstock, Vermont. The entire run of this short lived but important and influential art and and literary periodical curated by the husband and wife team of John and Ruth Stephans. This publication featured work by lesser known artists like Mark Tobey and Maud Morgan alongside work by more famous artists like Giacometti and Picasso. Ruth Stephan was a poet and heiress to the Walgreen fortune. Carries a host of tipped-in color plates. Included with the set is Pamela Frank, 'The Tiger's Eye-The Art of a Magazine' issued to coincide with The Tiger's Eye exhibit held at Yale in 2002 documenting the magazine's history. Some creasing to the spines of the early issues but overall a clean set. Orig. illustrated stiff wrappers. Very good to Near fine.
