This would have been a fine copy were it not for a previous owner who attempted to tape together the dust jacket with tape on both the front and reverse side. Over the years, the tape has faded and the dust jacket was not placed in a protective cover resulting in copies of the tape on both the front and rear first pages (blank) Except for this discoloration of the pages, this wold have been a fine copy. There is little rubbing to the corners and book itself is good + condition. It is a very good book and one that reads well. The DJ is now in a mylar protective holder. The book has been priced to reflect the damage and is ideal for a reader. Not Signed.

Second edition of the acclaimed folklorist's "hearty odyssey of tales told in a land that knows blood and sand." Folklorist Dobie devoted his life to showing "the people of Texas and the Southwest the richness of their culture and their traditions, particularly in their legends" (Handbook of Texas). "Blood spurts on the first page of this book and on the last. That is appropriate. It's a hearty odyssey of tales told by the Mexican ranchers and soothsayers and cowhands in a land that knows blood and sand Dobie says: 'It is my nature to draw out of men anything strange or novel they have within themselves, whether the matter be fact or not. In truth, I have no reference for mere facts.' And with this gift he has collected a book full of strange and interesting tales" (New York Times).
