Seconda edizione, di solo un anno posteriore alla prima e come essa impressa in forma anonima, di questa trattazione filosofico-teologica sugli scrupoli morali impregnata di spiriti giansenisti. L'abate Duguet (Montbrison, 1649-Parigi, 1733) fu fecondo scrittore religioso, teologo e moralista, profondo studioso delle Sacre Scritture. Professore a Troyes e a Parigi, simpatizzò per il giansenismo ed il cartesianismo, abbandonando nel 1685 la congregazione dell'oratorio e raggiungendo Arnauld a Bruxelles. Tornato a Parigi nel 1690, trovò asilo presso il presidente di Ménars, presso il quale rimase, salvo qualche viaggio, per il resto della vita. Nondimeno, egli non sconfessò mai le teorie gianseniste, cosa che lo indusse a pubblicare anonimamente molti dei suoi scritti. Celebri la sua replica alla bolla "Unigenitus" (1721), e il trattato "L'Institution d'un prince" (Leida, 1739), scritto per Vittorio Amedeo di Savoia. L'André pubblicò nel 1764 un "Esprit de M. Duguet, ou Précis de la morale chrétienne tiré de ses ouvrages" e Sainte-Beuve scrisse di lui nel sesto volume della sua grande opera "Port Royal". Barbier, IV, 787. Quérard, II, 653. Cfr.
