Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computer networking, the Transport Layer is a group of methods and protocols within a layered architecture of network components within which it is responsible for encapsulating application data blocks into data units (datagrams, segments) suitable for transfer to the network infrastructure for transmission to the destination host, or managing the reverse transaction by abstracting network datagrams and delivering their payload to an application. Thus the protocols of the Transport Layer establish a direct, virtual host-to-host communications transport medium for applications and therefore also referred to as transport protocols. Transport layers are contained in both the TCP/IP model (RFC 1122), which is the foundation of the Internet, and the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model of general networking. The definitions of the Transport Layer are slightly different in these two models. This article primarily refers to the TCP/IP model. See also the OSI model definition of the Transport Layer.…

Venturi TransportProtocol (VTP) is a patented proprietary transport layer protocol thatis designed to transparently replace TCP in order to overcomeinefficiencies in the design of TCP related to wireless data transport. It is owned by Venturi Wireless. The protocol is employed by variouswireless broadband internet service providers such as Verizon Wirelessand Unwired (Unwired calls the Venturi Client application that providestransparent VTP connectivity the Unwired Optimizer) in order to speed uptheir network and to overcome latency issues.…

In computer networking, a port is an application-specific or process-specific software construct serving as a communications endpoint in a computer's host operating system. A port is associated with an IP address of the host, as well as the type of protocol used for communication. The protocols that primarily use the ports are the Transport Layer protocols, such as the Transmission Control Protocol and the User Datagram Protocol of the Internet Protocol Suite. A port is identified for each address and protocol by a 16-bit number, commonly known as the port number. The port number completes the destination address for a communications session.…

In computernetworking, the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is aTransport Layer protocol, serving in a similar role as the popularprotocols Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol(UDP). It provides some of the same service features of both: it ismessage-oriented like UDP and ensures reliable, in-sequence transport ofmessages with congestion control like TCP. The protocol was defined bythe IETF Signaling Transport (SIGTRAN) working group in 2000, and ismaintained by the IETF Transport Area (TSVWG) working group. RFC 4960defines the protocol. RFC 3286 provides an introduction. In the absenceof native SCTP support in operating systems it is possible to tunnelSCTP over UDP, as well as mapping TCP API calls to SCTP ones.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computer networking, theTransport Layer Interface (TLI) was the networking API provided byAT&T UNIX System V Release 3 (SVR3) in 1987 and continued intoRelease 4 (SVR4). TLI was the System V counterpart to the BSD socketsprogramming interface, which was also provided in UNIX System V Release4 (SVR4). TLI was later standardized as XTI, the X/Open TransportInterface. It was originally expected that the OSI protocols wouldsupersede TCP/IP, thus TLI is designed from an OSI model-orientedviewpoint, corresponding to the OSI transport layer. Otherwise, TLIlooks similar, API-wise, to sockets. TLI and XTI were widely used andup to UNIX 98, were preferred over the POSIX Sockets API. TLI and XTIare still supported in SVR4-derived operating systems and operatingsystems conforming to branded UNIX (UNIX 95, UNIX 98 and UNIX 03 SingleUNIX Specifications) such as Solaris (as well as 'classic' Mac OS, inthe form of Open Transport). Under UNIX 95 (XPG4) and UNIX 98 (XPG5.2)XTI was the preferred and recommended supported API for new transportprotocols.…
