Paperback. Etat : Good. In the years following the American Civil War, many Southern families, their sons and husbands having lost their lives or their health in defense of the confederate cause, also lost their farms and homes. For the entrenched Southern aristocracy, the conversion from a plantation economy based on slave labor to a similar system based on share cropping seemed a logical adaptation. So when a small farm family no longer had the manpower required to make the farm productive, it was usually soon lost to foreclosure and often was bought up by a former plantation owner. This is scenario precisely describes the experience of the family of Henry and Caron Yeatts, a young family that, following the Civil War and the death of Henry, was forced to leave their farm in the fertile Virginia Piedmont to resettle on a borrowed rocky homestead in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In spite of an incredibly difficult beginning, the Yeatts progeny has thrived, maintaining their roots in a mountain community with the name of, believe-it-or-not, Mayberry, Virginia. This book is a collection of vignettes from six generations of a family that has been sustained by hard work, strong faith, and a lively sense of humor.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. I truly believe Dr. Gordon has cracked the code on TBI. This book is going to save millions of lives. Jonathan Wells, J. Wells Media Group This book is a rare work and insight into an injured physician's mind and emotional struggle that must be read by all medical workers and patients suffering from brain injury and concussions. Gerald Dieter Griffin, PharmD, MD, FACFE, Brigadier General, MC, USA, Retired A captivating journey into the world of TBI's from the perspective of a physician and TBI sufferer. A must read for anyone with TBI, those connected to someone who have it, and equally important for anyone in human resources to understand the challenges of a TBI sufferer in the workplace. Tim A. Garrett, Retired CHRO, Honda of America Mfg., Inc. Often misdiagnosed and misunderstood, traumatic brain injury (TBI) may be a life-altering event which can produce a wide range of symptoms affecting physical as well as psychological health. Indeed, all senses can be affected, especially sight and sound, producing errors in judgment, loss of memory, and difficulty processing information. Now, a physician shares her personal journey with TBI after suffering a life changing accident. In this touching and informative book, Dr. Chrisanne Gordon chronicles her struggles, the high points as well as the lows, as she is challenged to make sense of what happened and realizes that her medical training did not prepare her for these struggles. With intimate detail she explains what it is like to have mTBI, how it affected her life, and what was needed for healing and recovery. Perhaps, most importantly, Turn the Lights On is a beacon of hope and understanding for anyone who has experienced a mild traumatic brain injury or concussion, and a guide for their loved ones, caregivers, and health care providers who assist with their recovery.…

Hardback. Etat : Good. You did nothing. Christine Steinmeyer thought the anonymous suicide note she found in her mailbox on Christmas Eve wasn't meant for her. But the man calling in to her radio show seems convinced otherwise. You let her die. . . . That's only the beginning. Bit by bit, her life is turned upside down. But who among her friends and family hates her enough to want to destroy her? And why? It's as if someone has taken over her life, and everything holding it together starts to crumble. Soon all that is left is an unimaginable nightmare.Martin Servaz is on leave in a clinic for depressed cops, haunted by his childhood sweetheart Marianne's kidnapping by his nemesis, the psychopath Julian Hirtmann. One day, he receives a key card to a hotel room in the mail--the room where an artist committed suicide a year earlier. Someone wants him to get back to work, which he's more than ready to do, despite his mandatory sick leave. Servaz soon uncovers evidence of a truly terrifying crime. Could someone really be cruelly, consciously hounding women to death? What if the people closest to us are not what they seem? What happens when someone takes control of your life and your relationships? And what is hiding in the darkness? In Bernard Minier's Don't Turn Out the Lights, you won't see who's coming after you.…

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. The Last One Out of Town Turn Out the Lights tells the inspiring untold story of how a soul-crushing school district consolidation in 1975 changes the fate and fortunes of two rural Maine high schools. That controversial school merger allows Foxcroft Academy to finally establish a winning basketball team and claim its one and only Gold Ball, the trophy of the Maine High School Basketball Championship. Bitter feelings and personal struggles are revealed, as are stories of admiration and light-hearted moments. Through a turbulent time in America, this book examines the impact of a winning high-school basketball team on two rival schools and their towns. The book weaves unpopular decisions to cut popular players from the team, fights with hated rivals, and a phantom foul that should never have been called and that lead to the kind of championship season that all small towns, coaches, players, and fans across the country covet, embrace, and treasure for a lifetime.…
