Single unprinted quarto sheet. Creases from being folded, wear along one edge and two punch holes. Typed note signed by poet E.E. Cummings, dated April 21, 1948, and written at his Patchin Place home in Greenwich Village, to composer Vincent Persichetti: "go ahead with 'rain or hail' & good luck --sincerely, E.E. Cummings". A sh…ort note from the poet to Persichetti, who created a number of choral works based on Cummings' verse. Here Cummings gives his approval to a small change to the opening line of his poem, "Sam was a real guy", which changes from "rain to shine" to "rain or hail". A brief but interesting and visually appealing communication between two collaborators. Signed.
