Ajouter au panierFirst edition, signed by the author, of the glam rock superstar's only lifetime book of poetry. Loosely inserted is a letter on T. Rex Fan Club stationery, dated 18 July 1973, typed and signed "Linda", in the original envelope. It is addressed to one Cecilia Radice and informs her that she has won the book in a t-shirt drawing competition. Bolan was proud of his literary ability, and considered the lyrics to T. Rex songs to be further examples of his poetry. In an interview with Creem magazine in 1973, he stated "Whether you think I'm good or bad, I'm still the best-selling poet in England" (Crowe). Cameron Crowe, "T. Rex: What They Tried To Do With David Bowie Was Create Another Marc Bolan", Creem, July 1973. Octavo. Typed letter, on blue paper with red header, laid in. Original photographic boards. A little rubbed, extremities bumped, a couple of punctures to front board joint, top edge and outer leaves faintly foxed: a very good copy.

A fun fact: before being kicked out of school at age 15 for bad behavior, Bolan played guitar in a trio called Susie and the Hula Hoops, whose singer was none other than 12-year-old Helen Shapiro.

Ajouter au panierLupus Music, 1969. 8vo. Original decorative paper-covered boards, with dustwrapper; pp. 63; slightly rubbed to extremities, internally very clean and bright, very good. Provenance: ffep inscribed by Marc Bolan "Deepest love/ Marc Bolan/ x", with ownership signature of Jeannette Montgomery (b. 1956) the revered photographer of the New York downtown art scene, known since her marriage as Jeannette Montgomery Barron. When asked by the Fashion Style blog who she was 'totally into' as a teenager, Mongomery Barron replied : 'T. Rex'.First edition. Scarce signed.Heavily inspired by Tolkien, this book of poetry was issued before Bolan hit international superstardom with T. Rex. Nevertheless, he was a big enough domestic star to sell 40,000 copies of this book, which was quickly reprinted and became Britain's biggest selling volume of poetry of the year. There is a nod to his band in the very last lines of the last poem in the book : "And now where once stood solid water/ stood the reptile king,/ Tyrannosaurus Rex, reborn and bopping". This may be the first time a dinosaur has ever been described in such rock'n'roll terms.
