Etat : very good. Illustrated by Mark Rolfe. Wantage : Aviation Workshop Publications Ltd., 2008. Paperback. 112 pp. color illustrations. 30 cm. (The Aviation Workshop Publications Ltd. on target profile, 9). From the publisher : Although the concepts which lead to the F/A 18's creation had uncertain beginnings. Northrop's YF-17… aircraft was eventually developed into the earty A-model Homet which went on to have much success within the US Navy Having proved itself in the service of its native country, the jet attracted significant interest from other nations and since its humble beginnings in the 1970s has matured in to a very capable strike platform This true thoroughbred has cut its teeth in numerous conflicts during its career and its combat record has been distinguished. The incorporation of McDonnell Douglas into Boeing only served to expand the Hornet's potential with the development and implementation of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet into US Navy, and subsequently Royal Australian Air Force, service. When the Northrop YF-17 project first saw difficulties, it was unlikely that many industry observers would have predicted what a success story the resulting F/A-18 Honet would eventually become. This book concentrates solely on the early development aircraft and the legacy Hornets which followed-namely the F/A-18A/B/C/D variants. Years of sterling service with nine international air arms have given rise to a massive variety of operational and celebratory colour schemes; the majority of which we have attempted to encompass in this publication. With superb, vibrant colour profiles by Mark Rolfe and informative text by Mark Attrill and Gary Madgwick this study of the legendary F/A-18 really brings the scale of the jet's historic contribution in to perspective. The sheer magnitude of the subject forces this book to be larger and more comprehensive than any other publication in this series to date and for that reason it has been awarded the title of Profile Plus.' The intention has been to make the level of illustration more capacious and the captions more informative than the standard format seen until now. This publication has been arranged to provide an indispensable complement to the reader's existing reference material. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9781904643180. Keywords : AVIATION.
