As MP, he championed Jewish civil rights and held positions like Judge Advocate General. Appointed Governor of Bombay in 1834, he spearheaded transformative colonial projects and supported British expansion, notably influencing the occupation of Aden. Also a devout Christian, he authored sacred poetry, including the enduring hymn "O Worship the King." Grant died in Poona, India, and was buried at St. Mary's Church, Pune.
