Schirmer (18921926), translating major music texts and contributing to Musical Quarterly. He authored Baker's Dictionary of Musical Terms and the influential Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians. After retirement, he moved to Leipzig for his wife's health. She died in 1934; Baker died shortly after in Dresden at age 83.
