This opening was a popular method of equalizing the skill differential between a stronger and a weaker player in the days before time controls and match play became established. The author has arranged the games in tabular form, with notes, to more readily show the variations arising from any particular move. It will be found to contain much to interest and instruct the learner, and, in view of the book being the first to deal solely with games played at these odds, it should prove attractive to players of all strengths. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
