This copy is bright, tight, white and square. The unclipped dust wrapper is in as new condition, it has been covered in clear, removable, mylar, protective film. Riley and Higgins were two of the foremost lepidopterists of their time: the former a professional employed by the British Museum and the latter an amateur who fitted his hobby in around life as a surgeon. This book was the culmination of their decades of combined learning supported by the excellent illustrations of Brian Hargreaves. Adult insects only are depicted but both undersides and uppers and male and female or other notable variants. There are also distribution maps at a scale that give an approximate idea of where species might be encountered, something of an innovation at the time. Ref SS 3.
