The uncommon first edition of the first comprehensive history into English money and the Bank of England, stretching from the Medieval era through its height in the Victorian era. The uncommon first edition of The Pound Sterling: A History of English Money, a comprehens…ive history of the British economy, written by A.E. Feavearyear. Published by The Clarendon Press in 1931. Only three institutional copies are held of this first edition. In the publisher's original cloth, in the original unclipped dust wrapper.Covering the history of the British pound from its Medieval origins to the Currency and Bank Notes Act of 1928, Feavearyear offers us an insightful narrative into the Bank of England, perhaps one of the most successful banking institutions in history. Not only do we read of internal incidents and events, but we also see how it has transformed from its rise in the Tudor and Stuart era to its dominance in the Georgian and Victorian eras. The book is the first to provide a thorough examination of the history of English coinage as its own subject. In the publisher's original cloth, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with minimal marks. Heavy bumping to the extremities, lighter knocks to the head and tail of the spine. A very faint fading patch to front joint near head of spine. Browning and fading to dust wrapper, heavier fading to wrapper spine. Rubbing to wrapper edges, and small chips to head and tail of wrapper spine. The odd small mark to rear wrapper. Minimal fading to fly leaves. Slight offsetting to end paper hinges, the odd faint spot to end papers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with slight age toning to the extremities. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrateur). book.
