8 pp. stapled periodical. Paper wrappers. Pages a little age-toned, otherwise fine. First edition. Abbie Hoffman was a Yippie leader, and one of the Chicago Seven. In 1973, he was arrested by the FBI and charged with attempting to distribute three pounds of cocaine. Ginsberg used this issue of The Realist to write an open letter… denouncing the United States' drug laws, and calling for donations to Hoffman's bail fund. (Hoffman was to claim for the rest of his life that he'd been the victim of an FBI sting operation. Facing a possible life sentence, he later skipped bail, had cosmetic surgery to change his appearance, and lived in hiding for the next seven years. On resurfacing he was given a one-year sentence, and served four months). A beautifully preserved copy.
