Per R.P.D.Angelum Sangrinum Abbatem Congregationis Casine[n]sis carmine conscripta. Rome, Bartolomeo Bonfardino, 1587. Small 4to. [8] leaves + 246 pages of text + [3] p chapter index + [1 blank]p. With 52 exquisite fullpage engravings including a composite engraved title with lively scenes of the life of St Benedict engraved and designed by two outstanding Roman baroque artists; woodcut ornaments throughout, historiated initials at beginnings of chapters. The dedication is to Odoardo Farnese, son of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese. Traces of usage, some neat repairs in edges of blank margins, ocasional light traces of waterstaning, but a good copy with strong impressions of the magnificent illustrations; blank margin of title with manuscript presentation inscription to a canon dated 1769. Bartsch XVII, pp27-39; Bury, The Print in Italy 1550-1625, British Museum 2001, p231 (as Passari). On the life of St Benedict, cf: Evelyn Lincoln, Brilliant discourse, pictures.
