"Harry Willard French, an American author active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is best known for his 1892 novel, ?The Lance of Kanana: A Story of Arabia.? This work narrates the tale of Kanana, a young Bedouin boy from the Beni Sad tribe, who, despite his initial unfamiliarity with weapons, becomes a legendary figure among his people. The novel has been reprinted multiple times, including a 1916 edition. French?s literary contributions also encompass poetry, notably a poem reflecting on his experiences in India. This piece was influenced by his connection to W.H. Channing, a prominent American Unitarian and associate of Ralph Waldo Emerson, as French was Channing?s son-in-law.
