Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book relates the history of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, founded 60 years earlier in 1807 as the medical faculty of Columbia College. The author discusses the significant advancement in medical fields during the period, including the introduction of anesthesia, and the innovations in surgical techniques. Among the improvements noted by the author is the application of new technology to the medical field, and the impact that this has on the efficiency of medical care. By giving a detailed history of one institution, the author also gives insight into the evolution of medical care in New York City, and the country as a whole. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a series of essays addressing concerns over specific, restrictive rules in the American Medical Association's prevailing code of ethics. Several medical professionals from New York State argue for greater latitude in consultations with practitioners outside the traditional medical establishment, and posit that such consultations would bring more patients into contact with the benefits of rational medical care. The essays delve into the history of medical codes of ethics, exploring their origins and evolution, and examine the tensions between professional autonomy and humanitarian duty. Some essays also explore the roots and growth of sects in medicine, such as homeopathy, and how the existing code of ethics may have contributed to their proliferation. Ultimately, the author calls for the abolition of restrictive ethical codes for medical practice, positing that greater individual freedom and less interference would be of benefit to both patients and practitioners. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
