"Smitty" is the sort of folksy contactee-hustler (imprisoned for embezzlement, in fact) common to the late 1950s, but his tales of government interference in the lives of UFO experiencers, German-speaking aliens, and strange polar connections would come to prove quite prescient of where the literature would go.
