Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. A refined and ceremonially produced portrait volume celebrating the British Royal Family under the House of Windsor, issued in the context of the early reign of King George VI following the constitutional transition of 1936-1937. This work presents a series of finely executed portrait plates depicting key members of the royal household, including King George V, Queen Mary, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and notably a young H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth—later Queen Elizabeth II—captured here in one of her earliest formal portrait representations. The volume reflects both a moment of dynastic consolidation and a carefully curated public image of monarchy during a period of national transition. The inclusion of the royal coat of arms, formal typography, and high-quality plate production situates the book firmly within the tradition of official or semi-official commemorative publications of the period. Of particular interest is the contextual timing: produced at the dawn of George VI's reign, it captures the royal family at a pivotal historical moment, bridging the late imperial era and the modern constitutional monarchy that would follow under Elizabeth II. The plates themselves—restrained, dignified, and executed with clarity—emphasise continuity, legitimacy, and public reassurance, making this both a visual and historical document. Bibliography Illustrated with a full suite of portrait plates of members of the British Royal Family Publication Details; London: Methuen & Company Limited, [circa 1937] Condition; Very good condition. Original cream cloth binding with gilt titling and royal arms to upper cover. Light surface marking and handling wear to boards. Internally clean with well-preserved plates, occasional light spotting. Structurally sound. Why This Matters; A well-produced royal portrait volume capturing the House of Windsor at a defining historical moment, including an early image of the future Queen Elizabeth II—appealing to collectors of royal history, portraiture, and British heritage material. Offered by Atlas Rare Books, specialists in rare and antiquarian books.…

Ajouter au panierPlease email for Photographs or further information. Good - An attractive copy in the original glazed pictorial boards with green cloth spine. Front board remains notably bright and colourful, with rubbing, scuffing and wear principally to the edges and corners. Spine cloth with general rubbing and handling wear. Rear board age-soiled and marked, with the illustrated Green's Sponge Mixture advertisement remaining clear and complete. Inner hinges show age-related wear and some opening at the gutters, with binding material visible in places. Previous owner's contemporary presentation inscription to the front endpaper: "From my mother with best love 1924", together with the recipient's name and address. Internally, the illustrated contents remain generally bright and well preserved for a children's annual of this age. Some light handling marks, scattered spotting and minor soiling, principally to the early and end pages. Colour frontispiece remains bright, and the numerous two-colour and black-and-white illustrations are clean and well defined. No colouring-in or other annotation noted beyond the ownership inscription. A pleasing, unrestored-looking early Tiger Tim's Annual, particularly attractive for its bright pictorial front board, surviving cloth spine, colour frontispiece and well-preserved illustrated contents. Series Note: Tiger Tim's Annual was issued as the annual companion to Tiger Tim's Weekly. The first annual was cover-dated 1922 and the series continued through 1957. The annuals brought together the comic adventures of Tiger Tim and his companions with stories, verse, games and other material for younger readers. The 1924 volume is therefore one of the earliest issues in the series. Tiger Tim had already become an established figure in British children's comics before the launch of Tiger Tim's Weekly. The character and the Bruin Boys originated with Julius Stafford Baker, while Herbert Sidney Foxwell became the artist most closely associated with Tiger Tim during much of the 1920s and early 1930s. Collation: pp. 160. Colour frontispiece; numerous illustrations throughout in colour, two-colour and black and white. Please see Photos as part of condition report. Issued from the offices of Tiger Tim's Weekly at Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London, the volume is presented in striking glazed pictorial boards with green cloth spine. The vivid front cover shows Tiger Tim signalling the departure of a train carrying his familiar animal companions, while the rear board carries a full-page period advertisement for Green's Sponge Mixture. Lavishly illustrated throughout, the annual combines comic picture stories, children's fiction, verse and humorous pieces, with a colour frontispiece and numerous illustrations in colour, two-colour and black and white. Among the pieces shown are The Unlucky Spiders, The Brownie Boys and Old King Cole and The Real Father Christmas. A particularly attractive example of early British comic and juvenile publishing, retaining considerable period charm.
