Gilded Eagle "A" artillery coat button, circa 1861-1865, is a battlefield-recovered artifact associated with Civil War artillery service and supports the study of military uniforms, branch insignia, and objects carried or lost in combat landscapes. The eagle-and-letter device identifies its artillery associat…ion, while the excavated surface records the button's prolonged burial at an unspecified battle site. Coat-size button bearing a raised eagle above the letter "A," with surviving gold-colored gilt outlining portions of the design. The face has developed a smooth chocolate-brown patina and displays visible ground-related surface wear from burial and recovery. A distinct punch appears over the eagle's left wing.
