First edition. A series of addresses delivered by Rev. Augustus E. Barnett from his Reformed Episcopal Church of Our Redeemer located at 1617 Oxford Street in Philadelphia. Barnett outlines the doctrinal divide between Catholicism and Protestantism and investigates the Protestant approach to the Papacy, priesthood, Bible, Sacraments, the Confessional, Purgatory, the Virgin Mary and politics. According to the July, 1913 issue of "The Malta Bulletin:" "The first edition of 10,000 copies is nearly exhausted, and the printers are now at work on an edition of 50,000. If factual, the majority did not survive as very few copies show up institutionally, with none others in commerce (March, 2019). Barnett appears to have persisted in his anti-Catholic activities, as the Oct. 2, 1916 issue of the New York Times reports on his resignation from the church in order to embark on an anti-Catholic lecture tour.
