Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 2018 Common Ground Publishing hardcover edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. Through case studies reflecting the experiences of teachers and students, The Mindful Eye explores the ways in which contemplative approaches can incorporate mindfulness and embodiment practices in visual arts higher education. Currently discussed as a promising complementary vision, contemplative pedagogies are increasingly introduced across a wide range of disciplinary practices in higher education with well-demonstrated positive impacts on students' academic performance, creativity, stress management, and sense of wellbeing. Significantly, however, ways of knowing and being that privilege attention, stillness, and an awareness of interior states have particular resonances for art and design practitioners, where the compassionate engagement that can emerge from the practice has radically transformative possibilities. Visual practices appear to be particularly conducive to encouraging "mindful ways of seeing" that integrate individual concerns and social realities, inspiring alternative visions of a more sustainable future. The case studies in this book provide a critical guide to incorporating contemplative practices across a range of teaching and learning contexts, from the practice-based studio to the classroom, lecture theater, and field excursion. Alive to the pedagogical and professional challenges of incorporating non-traditional forms of enquiry into the art and design curriculum, the book draws on the lived experiences of teachers and graduates to constitute a compendium of evidence-based approaches for a transformative education grounded in contemplative pedagogies. Covering a range of visual practices, the 13 chapters are grouped into four sections, respectively entitled Moving Images, Embodied Practices, Creative Expressions, and Contemplative Designs. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. Read the script and then watch the movie! Inspired by movies like AMELIE, RUSHMORE and RAISING ARIZONA, ODD BRODSKY follows the adventures of a 30-something Audrey Brodsky, who'll do just about anything to find her big break in Hollywood. Fueled by a childhood promise to become an actress, Audrey moves from Hollywood, Iowa to Hollywood, California and finds great success. working 40 hours a week at a desk job she hates. Ten years pass in the blink of an eye when Audrey finally decides to reclaim her childhood dream. Antics ensue as Audrey quits the office to create her new life as an actor. She hires a camera "crew", which is just one guy who calls himself Camera One, and moves in with a happy-go-lucky roommate named Spuds. Life seems to come easy for Spuds, but not so much for poor Audrey, who tries so hard that she pushes away the very things that she wants most. Lighthearted gags about living in Los Angeles provide a subtle commentary about the importance society places on celebrity. But beneath the humor lies a bittersweet story that proves inspiring and universal. Anyone who's ever felt stuck, disconnected or invisible will be able to relate to Audrey's plight. In the end, she realizes that what she's been looking for all along is to feel a connection to herself, the people in her life, and to the world around her. This quirky comedy about following your passion to find the magic in life was produced into a critically acclaimed full length movie, which won 20 film festival awards, and is now available to watch online.
