Thomas Wright's comprehensive history of Essex describes the county district by district, covering its ancient and modern history, topography, agriculture and general statistics. Beginning with the Norman conquest, chapters cover Uttlesford, Dunmow, Harlow, Chelmsford, Witham and more. Serving to provide the people of Essex a "complete and modern History of their County". Wright was an English writer, scholar and antiquarian and a co-founding member of the British Archaeological Association, which remains active to this day. Uniformly bound in half calf with marbled paper covered boards and morocco spine labels. Externally, smart, with really only rubbing to the extremities. Bookplate of one James Sharp of Aldeburgh, Suffolk to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound.
