Frontispiece dated 1919; front cover dated 1914. 139 pages, including frontispiece, plus several leaves of blank graph paper at rear. Original dark green cloth lettered in gilt. 19 x 12.5 cm. Corner of frontispiece clipped, not affecting… image, else very good. Minor spotting to cloth, one word note on each of two tables (pp. 98-99), some very faint foxing. Signed by North Carolina cotton mill owner and executive, Haddon S. Mackie of Gastonia, on the front flyleaf. [Mackie was part owner of the Osceola Mill near Gastonia. He later became an executive at Textiles-Incorporated, which purchased the Osecola Mill in 1931.] Apparent second edition, later issue. The first edition was published in 1907. The present edition bears the same pagination and the contents appear to be identical, excepting a revised date on the title page and a new frontispiece. Fales & Jenks Machine Company was established in 1830. Its first commission was making a spooler for Cunningham & Anderson of Richmond in 1833, and the firm supplied cotton mills in both the North and the South throughout its history. On the title page, John Henry Mayes (1856-1947) of Charlotte, N.C. is listed as the Southern agent for Fales & Jenks. Mayes was a cotton mill designer who built Mayesworth, a Gaston County mill and worker's village in 1907.
