Francis Beeding was…the pseudonym adopted by John Leslie Palmer and Hilary St George Saunders for their espionage-related novels. Both had attended Balliol College, Oxford and worked together at the League of Nations in Geneva, where Vernon Bartlett, journalist and author (most famously, co-authoring Journey's End, 1930) led the League's London Office before joining the BBC. The novel, set in the ongoing War, is dedicated, 'with his consent, in admiration', to Winston Churchill.
