Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of formulas, theorems, and illustrative examples pertaining to calculating stresses on bridges under the influence of various loads. The author presents general methods for solving these problems, applicable to any bridge or loading configuration, and illustrates their use with specific examples of varying complexity. Of particular note is the development of a method for calculating live load stresses in statically indeterminate structures, such as two-hinged and no-hinged arches, swing bridges, continuous girders, etc., which bridges the gap in existing analytical criteria for determining the positions of loads producing maximum stresses. The author presents their subject rigorously and clearly, with helpful diagrams and illustrations, making this book a valuable resource for bridge engineers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides a coherent explanation of the influence lines used to determine maximum live-load stresses in structures. It explains how influence lines can be drawn, offering alternative methods for more complex structures. The author also offers general algebraic formulas for stresses and rules for maximum stress when the general relations between influence lines and algebraic formulas are understood; and in the case of more complex problems, the influence lines themselves serve as the most direct method for the determination of maximum live-load stresses. Engineers interested in a more detailed comprehension of calculating stresses on bridges and arches will find this book invaluable. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book, originally published in 1915 but written well over 100 years ago, provides insight into a method to analyze statically indeterminate structures. The method is particularly advantageous in the case of two-hinged and no-hinged arches, swing bridges, continuous girders, etc., where general analytical criteria for the positions of loads producing maximum stresses cannot readily be expressed. Here, the author provides both general formulas for the sum of the ordinate-load products of an influence line and the rate of change of this sum, and applies these formulas to simplify calculations for common bridge structures. He also provides many detailed illustrative examples. The result is a book of lasting value to anyone interested in bridge analysis.
