With colour illustrations by Tony Ludovici. The Son of the infamous Marquess of Queensberry, Douglas is best known for his relationship with Oscar Wilde. This scarce volume was published pseudonymously towards the end of Wilde's life. Oblong 4to. Rubbing to covers and corners, Toning and marking to rear cover. Some very faint foxing within. Binding tight and sound. Fair/good.

Small contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, generally bound, with the last few leaves detached but present to the work. Front free endpaper is loosening, but remains. Pages are generally bright and clean, with age toning to the endpapers and the odd spot. Good Only. book.

Contents mostly very good and clean, front endpage, with owner signature and miss folded, corner loss, edge wear, Title page to page 64 very good and clean, just the odd minor mark, Page 65/6 & 67/8 detached with edge wear/loss, trimmed at spine edge. Blank endpage trimmed. Undated, but published 1898. Silly amusing verse, with single sided illustrations by Reed. good cloth spine. Unlike many copies this has not been restored. The blank rear of the full page colour illustration and the illustrations are not numbered but are part of the 72 pages. The illustrations are black/white with some colour printing. The first edition of this scarce work.A nonsense poem about the Duke of Berwick, an uptight Duke, a comical and entertaining satire on Victorian society and the landed gentry.Illustrated with a colour title, and ten colour plates, by Tony Ludovici. Collated, complete.By Lord Alfred Douglas, an English poet and journalist, who is better known for being the lover of Oscar Wilde. Douglas' father, the 9th Marquess of Queensberry, publicly accused Wilde of being homosexual, leading to a trial and Wilde's imprisonment. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with light marks and rubbing to the boards. Marks are heavier to the rear board. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are tender. Front endpaper and half-title are detached but present. Bookseller's stamp to the recto of the front endpaper. Tape marks to the paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good. book.
