Discendente da famiglia lunigianese, il padre Beverini (Lucca, 1629-1686) fu membro della Congregazione dei Chierici Regolari della Madre di Dio. Grande conoscitore delle lingue classiche, insegnò teologia e retorica ed eloquenza a Lucca e a Roma. Fu fecondo compositore di rime religiose e liriche, e a lui si deve il celebre volgarizzamento in ottava rima dell'Eneide. La presente opera, di notevole rarità, costituisce il suo principale saggio storico, in cui rivela una perfetta conoscenza dello stile liviano.
