Tissued illustrations secured at corners detached covers are present but edges chipped and covers are loose; cover titles intact as is rear cover illus; text pages brown and chipped with loss at corners; one drawing with foxing, one other with one spot of foxing; one page of drawing in rear is loose and mounted at only one corner. Worth preserving ; String tied binding; 32 mounted drawings by Bode on india paper. ow G/ndj: 23 pp. + 32 mounted full-page plates printed on India paper, several text illustrations as well as a front cover illustration and a rear cover drawing. Bode was a portrait artist from New York who died prematurely in the year of publication and published posthumously by his widow, Kate Bode. Bode was fascinated by Chinatown and its residents. His skillful sketches of people and scenes convey a vivid picture of Chinatown at the end of the 19th century. A very RARE and earnest presentation depicting the life of Chinese immigrants in 1890s San Francisco. .
