Pocket-Book Stolen. Whereas William Liddell, apprentice to William Scawin, Druggist, York, absconded on Tuesday Evening, March 28, and has taken with him a Pocket Book, containing thirteen draft bills and York notes, to the amount of six hundred pounds and upwards, the payment of which are stopped. He is a genteel young man, about nineteen years of age, had on a blue coat, a striped waistcoat, and corded trowsers.

22cm x 18cm.Uncut, sl. browned with unobtrusive small repair to upper corners. This broadside is unrecorded in the list of items in Kendrew's sample-book: see Roger David, Kendrew of York. 1988. 'N.B. Further particulars of the Bills, will be given in a future Advertisement' (also unrecorded). Kendrew, primarily known for his chapbooks, was in business 1803-1841. William Scawin, druggist of York, 1775-1866 married Mary Bland in 1801. He traded in Low Petergate at this time, moving to 57 Petergate in 1829. He retired in 1844, moving to 11, Monkgate, his business being taken over by James Scarwin Tonge until c.1870. …
