A fantastic little 20th century edition of a local history of the Hamilton-Wentworth area as it was written in 1897, with a proliferation of ink & pencils sketches of tools, homes, village life and landscapes of the era. Very light green boards, black lettering. Printed on newsprint paper, browning included! Pages are excellent, no writing, creases, stains or tears. Even has fake foxing on the eps for effect. The Dj has heavy edge wear/wrinkling on edges with some small splits, bottom front has a 2" wrinkle and a tear to flap edge. Fingerprint size smudge on back cover, but faint. Pages are clean and binding is good. Dust Jacket has a couple of tiny tears and is very slightly rubbed. There is some vague wrinkling at top of dust jacket. Reprinted on the order of the Wentworth County Council as a Centennial project by the Ryerson Press. Presentation copy signed by some people whose names are pretty much unreadable. The handwriting looks the same, Dated June 12, 1980. Maybe Clifford Sheets and ?Anne Hamilton Jones? oh well, A presentation edition with 'The Regional Muncipality of Hamilton-Wentworth' gold sticker on first end paper. Paperback. Etat : New. H. Beam Piper is one of science fiction's most enigmatic writers. In 1946 Piper appeared seemingly from out of nowhere, already at the top of his form. He published a number of memorable short stories in the premier science fiction magazine of the time, Astounding Science Fiction, under legendary editor John W. Campbell. Piper quickly became friends with many of the top writers of the day, including Lester Del Rey, Fletcher Pratt, Robert Heinlein and L. Sprague de Camp. Piper also successfully made the turn from promising short story writer to major novelist, authoring Four-Day Planet, Cosmic Computer, Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen and Little Fuzzy, which was nominated for a Hugo award. Even those who counted Piper among their friends knew very little about the man or his life as a railroad yard bull in Altoona, Pennsylvania. This biography illuminates H. Beam Piper, both the writer and the man, and answers lingering questions about his death.
