Original cloth over stiff wrappers, stamped "American Medical Association - Washington 1858" on front. Light wear at edges. Ex-library, withdrawn, with a fairly heavy hand with the library's rubber stamp. [2], 120 pp., folding map of Washington. This is a scarce edition of a popular Washington guidebook, clearly distributed to attendees of the American Medical Association gathering in Washington in May, 1858. Laid in at the back are the one-page Programme of events for the delegates, a card identifying the delegate James O. Pond from New York and a letter of introduction for Dr. Pond to Congressman RIchard Mott. The Programme has a reference to this guidebook. Also included are six invitations on calling cards (1 duplicate) for receptions coincident with the convention. These invitations include one to a reception held by Sen. Stephen A. Douglas. There is also a prefatory leaf which contains the name of the Committee of Arrangements Appointed by the Association, confirming that this issue of Bohn's guide was published specifically for this AMA meeting.
