Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. First and only edition. 4to. pp. 100; numerous coloured and b & w illusts., map loosely inserted as issued; very good in the original wrappers and d.-w., spine rubbed, K2 lettering to upper cover faded. A presentation copy from Robert Bates to Betty Lowe, sister of George Lowe, inscribed "Exeter N.H. May 8, 1955. All good wishes to Betty Lowe in memory of our joint ascent in the Hastings area last January Bob Bates". Houston & Bates's classic book K2: The Savage Mountain recorded the experiences of an American team on K2 in 1953. Their second book about the expedition - the present view-book - appeared in France only, since the authors' US publisher did not expect the book to sell well in the English-speaking world. This copy was presented by co-author Bob Bates to Betty Lowe, the sister of George Lowe (a member of the Everest expedition of 1953, and of the Trans-Antarctic expedition 1955-8). Signed by Author(s).

Includes a small, loose clipped SIGNATURE of Robert H. Bates on a thin strip of green decorated paper. It is hand-signed by Bates in dark navy pen. Original red cloth with gilt lettering spine. Exceptionally clean covers with no fading to spine (extremely uncommon for this book that nearly always has faded spine), spine gilt exceptionally bright and not dull, some very faint fading lower front outside corner and lower outside edge of rear cover (probably from dampness), thin strip of EP surface (front and back pastedowns) pulled from where DJ (not present) was most certainly onetime taped to the EPs, very solid binding (no cracking), no foxing, no restorations, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages.
