Nicht um oberflächliche Zurschaustellung technischer Fertigkeiten geht es hier, die Virtuosität liegt vielmehr im rein Musikalischen, wenn die Stücke anfangen, leise zu atmen und man dem Weg der Improvisation gespannt folgen kann. Darin liegt das ganze Leben, play or die, aber ohne Pathos. Natürlich sind auch einige zupackende Klassiker dabei, am spannendsten wird es aber, wenn Schumann sich selbst überrascht: So schön, sagt er, habe er 'Autumn Leaves' noch nie gespielt.
