Through a series of experimental shipments, the author found th…at containerized transport was superior to break-bulk methods in minimizing the five to ten separate handlings of individual poultry boxes which break-bulk shipping required, which in turn generated significant losses through pilferage, physical damage to boxes and their contents, and exposure to temperature fluctuations. The study suggests that switching to containerized models for frozen poultry transport could reduce shipping costs while improving the quality and quantity of the product delivered, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of US poultry exports in international markets.
