A collection of songs originally issued by the Newcastle-on-Tyne Typographical Society, at first issued separately and afterwards collectively in several editions. The original manuscripts, related correspondence and corrected proofs were puchased by Crawhall and collated into this single volume. An advert for the large paper edition is printed opposite the title-page which often leads to people confusing this, the standard edition, as being the large paper. The spine of the book carries the title Newcastle Fishers' Garlands. . …

Illustrated with 20 etched plates mounted on India paper (3 of them hand-coloured), an engraved portrait of Thomas Bewick, and wood-cuts in the text, 14 of them hand-coloured. Red roan-backed cloth, spine titled in gilt, top edge gilt. Numbered with a small blue stamp within a circle in the centre of the half-title verso. Minor tanning, minor use & stains to cloth. A very clean copy of the true large paper edition in the original binding. No. 4 of an edition of only fifty copies. Ownership signature of Thomas Gow, Cambs, 1864. Very scarce.
