Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the nature and use of limes, cements, hydraulic limes, and other binding agents used in construction. Historically, the most common of these materials, lime, is unreliable in wet conditions. This book instead focuses on water cements and hydraulic lime. Developed in the 1800s, these materials are a key component in some of the most important civil engineering projects. The author provides a thorough investigation into their properties and shares his own experiments, revealing the best methods for selecting, using, and mixing these materials. This book is a vital resource not only for those interested in their historical and scientific development but also for modern-day civil engineers seeking to construct buildings and other structures that can endure exposure to the elements. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive analysis of the properties and uses of limes, cements, and similar materials; the author offering a practical guide encompassing every stage of their production. The author provides a detailed overview of the work of previous cement researchers and inventors, such as Vicat and Frost, and delivers an extensive survey of the different types of cements available, both natural and artificial. The experiments the author conducted systematically compare the strength and adhesive qualities of various cement mixes and their efficacy for different building purposes, from domestic architecture to large-scale civil engineering projects.
