The anti-adaptation voices argue that adaptation is rewriting, rather than… being a true translation. Despite the contradicting views, whether for or against, still the translating process is governed by norms and conventions that regulate and govern the whole elements and factors. This includes the source text, the target text, the brief, the commissioner, cultural dimensions and the readers' expectations, and above all the role of the translator as a mediator. To argue for or against the adaptation approach, the study uses 'Loose Women' TV talk show with its open and brave language that necessitates using the adaptation strategy, especially when it comes to Arabic and English languages with their different identities and cultural backgrounds. In this context, euphemism and covert translation are more preferable to overt translation in translating outrageous sexual practices and taboos objectionable in the Arab culture. The challenge was finding a cultural substitution that ensured the same ideas as the source text. 80 pp. Englisch.

The humour identified in the two plays posed both cultural and linguistic pr…oblems in subtitling as an audiovisual translation domain. The study also investigated the translation strategies employed by the subtitler in overcoming the complex issues encountered. This complexity and challenge were magnified by the use of wordplay or monocultural references along with the multisemiotic nature of the audiovisual translation domain. Moreover, linguistic and cultural humour necessitated the implementation and the utilisation of interventional translation strategies on the subtitler's part to ensure the preservation of the SL humorous force to the same or a similar humorous effect in the TL. The subtitler's options and choices were also affected by the internal and external factors and parameters surrounding humour. The subtitling process faced technical constraints that limited the space and time given to the process of subtitling, which in turn, resulted in a doubling of the subtitler's burden and challenge. 356 pp. Englisch.
